    • Joomla - A PHP-based CMS. The Mambo project developers' continuing work. Late in the summer of 2005 all Mambo developers left the Mambo project of differences with the sponsoring company. Joomla is the project and home for their efforts today.
    • Drupal - Another PHP-based CMS. There are scores of modules for Drupal, and some find the layout of Drupal easier to customize than Mambo. There is also a project called Civicspace that combines drupal with several modules as well as aims to enable "bottom-up people-powered campaigns to operate on a more level playing field with more traditional top-down organizations, and, similarly, allows top-down organizations to leverage the power of grassroots organizing."
